Catalytic converters are now fitted to both petrol and diesel engines and contribute to greatly reduced emissions of harmful particulates and exhaust gases such as Hydrocarbons and Carbon Monoxide. They are very effective at doing this – as long as they are clean and not clogged up with carbon and other deposits from the engine.
The exhaust gases pass through a honeycomb brick which is coated with noble metals such as platinum, palladium and/or rhodium that convert undesirable un-burnt hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide and water; and nitrogen oxides to nitrogen and water.
Most exhaust gas pollution is at its highest when the engine is idling or run at low speeds. The catalytic converter can become clogged and the surface coated with carbon deposits leading to inefficient and poor conversion of the exhaust gases. In some extreme cases the exhaust gases are so restricted that they try to pass either side of the honeycomb brick causing the monolithic brick to break up into small pieces.
CATACLEAN's unique patented formula dissolves these carbon deposits from all interior surfaces of the honeycomb brick, allowing the catalytic converter to do its job at optimum efficiency. This could represent a reduction in emissions of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons of 60%.
“Experience in the UK shows that catalysts are being damaged or failing at a higher rate than had been foreseen. Surveys show that 15 to 20 percent of the catalysts in cars are severely damaged by the time they are three years old. Of these, only half can be repaired.” Friends of the Earth
